From Humble Beginnings...
In 1988, a full "all talk" station came to Carteret County, North Carolina as AM 1400 WBTB, that formerly broadcast Country during the day, and Talk overnight.

Baby Steps...
In 1992 WTKF 107.3 FM hit the airwaves as North Carolinas FIRST "FM" Talk Station. the programs where simulcast on both 107.3 and AM 1400. soon after AM 1400 was phased out and what was left was the very first FM talk station in the state of North Carolina. As the first radio station in North Carolina to broadcast an all talk format on FM radio, it boasted the slogan "First In Talk".

Ever Growing...
Ten years after signing on the FM, we expanded our programming to Jacksonville via simulcast on WJNC 1240 AM, and as the goal of the station leaned more to informing the listeners, as well as entertaining them, the slogan became "The Talk Station...It's Smart Radio"

Ever Smarter Radio...
On January 22nd 2008 at 3 PM 107.3 FM went dark and 107.1 FM became the new home of the Talk Station. Shifting from its 7,000-watt signal at 107.3 FM to a more-powerful 48,000-watt signal. This move to the left (side of the dial) was to allow the Talk Station to covere more area and delivered a more stable signal to all our listeners.

On AIR and On Line...
The Talk Station web site has been around since 1995, offering links and limited web content information. Then in February of 2010 the Talk Station offered local live programs streaming on line. LISTEN LIVE HERE
With the successful launch of web streaming as well as the expanded terrestrial radio coverage, The Talk Station is moving ever forward to not only bringing you the best in talk radio... but truly "Smart Radio".
